Cintiq!

I'm in love. At work we just got a cintiq moniter. For those of you who don't know what that is (and I think that's most of you because it's all friends and family visiting here) I'll explain. It's a moniter that is touch sensitive to a stylus pen. Basically I can draw on my moniter. It can also tilt and rotate to give it the more of a feel of actually drawing on a piece of paper. Add to it that you get all the benifits of using a computer, drawing on different layers, changing colors witht hte touch of a button etc.. and it's just awesome. I am having so much fun with this thing. Right now we only have one at work and it's a trial basis only so I'm using it while I can, but I am praying that we buy a couple for the company becuase I just love it. These are just some sketches I've done on it for fun to get used to it. Enjoy.
p.s. If anyone out there has a few spare thousand dollars and wants to get me one I won't complain.

New Painting

Here's a painting that I recently finished. It's just a small 5x7 that I painted for my kids new bathroom. It's going to have a surfing hawaiin theme going for it. Not great but I'm trying to get into the groove of painting again. Enjoy.

Dino Mummy!

This was something that was in the news the other day. Apparently they have discovered a dinosaur that was mummified. The mummy was later fossilized but that still gives us an impression of what the scales on the dino looked like and the musculature and all of that jazz. I thought it was all so cool. However, wouldn't it be even cooler to find one of these?

Gorgon!

Here's a sketch from the ol sketchbook. Had a lot of fun with this one. It's kind of a medusa thing but intead of snake heads for hair, this unfortunate lass got the tails. I guess there was a coin toss of some sort and this gorgon lost. Enjoy.

Surf Dog IN SPACE!

Just a funny little drawing in my sketchbook. I've always really loved bubble hats and rocket jetpacks. I still wish scientists would get cracking on these sorts of things. I want a car like the jetsons had and take picnic trips to the moon. Am I the only one? Enjoy.

More Gatory Goodness

Here's another Gator for ya'll. This one was heavily inspired by one of my favorite artists, Nico Marlet. And by heavily inspired I mean I took a whole lot of one of his drawings and then made it look like a gator. Still they say that imitation is the highest form of flattery right? Got some other stuff brewing right now. Hopefully I can get to posting it really soon. For now Enjoy!

Badger

This is just a small drawing from my skechbook. A bunch of artists at another studio were doing an excersise where they all created a badger character and tried to learn as much as they could about character design while doing it. I thought it looked like fun so I just drew a little badger of my own. Not much more to it than that. Enjoy.

Courting

This one just came out of nowhere. I drew the guy on the left and then the girl on the right just for fun and then I thought "Why are these two just staring at each other?" That's when I drew the guys other arm with a flower in it. Enjoy.

New Sketchbook

I've recently started a new sketchbook and I'm really excited about it. I just love toned paper. It really forces me to do some new and different things while I am sketching and I enjoy that. I also seem to really enjoy drawing lucha libre wrestlers. I think I'm ok with that. Hope you all enjoy.

Angel

Just another drawing from church. Enjoy.

Grin

Here's another drawing I did at church. I don't know where this guy came from or even what his story is, but darn it he's happy about something. Enjoy.

Been A While

Sorry it's been awhile again. Man am I bad at this whole blogging thing. It's not that I haven't been doing artwork, but work has ben busy and I've been doing some more personla projects that aren't ready to show yet. Anywho, here's another gator. I keep drawing these and I'm having a blast doing it. Hope you all enjoy.

Day of the Dead

I really ssem to love all that Day of the Dead stuff. This is a study for a painting I am working on (and by working on I mean painting for maybe an hour a week when I find the time and/or energy) I'll post the final painting when I'm done with it. for now you get this. enjoy.

I told you there would be more of these

Here's yet another gator. I gotta tell you, I absolutely love doing these things. I don't know what it is about the gators that I really just love to draw. Oh well. I'll try and get to some more clue characters as well here soon. I've also wanted to do some halloween themed stuff, but I've been doing some freelance work as well that's been limiting my time. We'll see what I can get to. Enjoy.

Gator 3

Here's another one of my gators. I realize that this one looks alot like the one from Peter Pan but honestly that gator was so cool looking how could I not draw at least one that looked like him. Enjoy.

Mr. Green

Here's another clue character. This one is a little more thrown together than the last two. However I think that Col. Mustard and Miss Scarlet are the coolest characters. I'll do my best with the remaining char's. Enjoy.

Gator 2

See I promised there would be more of these. There are actually about 20 more in my sketchbook as well. I keep drawing them during our daily meetings here at work. They're really a blast. Enjoy.

Scarlet

Wow, it's been forever hasn't it? Sorry abou that. I have been meaning to finish up that whole Clue thing. this is a drawing I did back when I did the Col. Mustard drawing and just never colored it up for you all. Well here you go. I'll try and get on the rest of them too. Sorry again. I'll start posting more often. Enjoy.

The first of many gators!

One of my favorite books that I own is called "Insanely Twisted Rabbits" by Michel Gagne. I love love love love love that book. What Michel did was while he was working at Don Bluth Animation studios, he and a friend of his started drawing these twisted rabbits. They would post them up on their walls and then try and outdo each other. Much later Michel took his rabbits and put them together and published them as a book. You should really go check them out, they are wonderful you should go to gagneint.com to check out all of his great work. I love the book because it kind of breaks the mold on what a rabbit can be. I pull the book out whenever I feel I am in an artistic rut. If I feel I keep doing the same drawings and using the same shapes, this book makes me go beyond and explore new things. That being said I decided to do my own version of this book. Only instead of rabbits I am doing aligators. I love drawing aligators. If I'm bored and can't think of something to draw I can always, always draw an aligator (ask my wife, she's seen plenty of them). So I've decided to have an entire sketckbook full of nothing but aligators and have fun doing different shapes and styles. So this is the first of many many gators that I am doing and having fun with. I hope you like them. I certainly enjoy doing them. Enjoy.

CLUE!

I was talking with some people at work about board games the other day and one that came up was Clue. I love Clue. I think it's just a cool cool game. I think I own two different versions of it (regular and Simpsons, because well, anything with simpsons on it is cool). I decided it would be alot of fun to redesign the Clue characters. Well not so much redesign as just do my own interpretations of them. I started with Col. Mustard. He's my favorite. I'm always Col. Mustard when I play. And if anyof you want to play Clue with me you're just going to have to deal with that. Dibs. I just called it. Ha! Anyway, I hope to make it through the rest of the cast in the next week or so. We'll see. enjoy.

Tennis Player

Sorry it's been awhile since I've posted anything. Life just gets the better of me every now and then. I was driving home from work yesterday and I saw a kid on his bike that looked kind of like this. I added in the usopen stuff on his headband because it just seemed right. Put some color on it quickly. I need to do more with color so I can get better at it. Enjoy.

Another Sketch Dump

Here's some sketches I did yesterday just for fun. I was having fun making people out of single blobby shapes. Thought as a whole it looked kind of fun. Enjoy.

Church sketches

I have a sketch book that I take to church with me everyweek. It seems that all my college experience taught me was that I can't pay attention to anyone for more than a couple minutes unless I'm drawing something at the same time. So with that in mind here's a sampling of what I draw. I'm not going to show you most of it, because alot of the sketches are fit only to be seen by me and my wife (she gets to see everything). Anywho, enjoy.

Oh No! A Tiger!

As promised yesterday here's something that's a bit more finished. When I started doing this drawing I really wasn't happy with how it was turning out but now that it's done I think it looks pretty cool. I think it must be the stripes. There's something about the stripes that makes up for my deficiencies elsewhere in the drawing. I think just about anything would be cooler with stripes. Can you think of anything that wouldn't? Enjoy.

faces, faces and more faces

Gosh that title makes it sound like I'm giving you a bunch of faces when in reality it's just five. Still it was pretty fun to just play with some shapes and mess around with styles. Didn't have time to finish one up for you all pretty like. Sorry. Maybe tomorrow I'll do something a bit more finished looking. For now you get faces faces and more faces. Enjoy.

Yet another sketch page

Didn't have alot of time today to color up an image so I just scanned up a page out of my current sketchbook. Not much more to it than that. Enjoy.

Little Pirate

Don't let this guy's size fool you. He's one tough hombre. Most other pirates you see have a peg leg or a hook for a hand, or even an eye patch, but not this pirate, and you know why? Because he doesn't ever lose a fight, that's why. You should see the other pirates that cross his path. Not a pretty picture I assure you. Enjoy.

100 posts!

Wow a hundred posts. Sorry it took so long to get to a hundred. I've got no excuse except for laziness. Looks like I'm getting a bit more on track though doesn't it? This was a drawing I did today nad then quickly colored up. I'm having alot of fun putting more color on these images than just a flat wash. I've been doing this type of thing at work too and it's been really fun and really instructive. Hopefully all of my paintings will benifit from this practice. Enjoy.

Pig

I'm having a really good time painting these up. I'm pretty pleased with the results too. This is a pig I drew this morning. Don't know why. Sometimes you just gotta draw a pig. Enjoy.

Character Sketch

Here's a quick character sketch I did awhile ago. Had a bit of fun coloring it up.I've got a bit of catching up to do it seems. Enjoy.

SOOO COOOOOL!

Something got released on line today that I thought you all might be interested in. If you go to gametrailers.com you can find a movie trailer for the game I worked on. It's not so much a trailer as an intro into the game. When you start playing this movie pops up to get you up to speed on who you are and what's happening. I think it's pretty funny. What do you all think?

Here's the link. http://gametrailers.com/player/21163.html

Enjoy.

More bellhop.

Ok well here's some more of that skeleton bellhop that I did last week. Spent a bit more time coloring him and I have taken away the pencil lines so it's all painted now. I usually fall back on the pencil lines as a crutch and so we'll see what I can do with this thing now. Enjoy.

Ghoulie

Sorry about another week without updating. I took another week vacation for a family reunion. It was alot of fun to just get out and break away from my normal routine and set up a new routine of swimming with my kids and basically playing all day long. I can get used to that. I did do some drawing while I was away and I'll start posting some more of those sketches here. For now I'll post one I did this morning at work. Don't know why I felt like drawing this guy. He is the product of another work meeting where I just start drawing and I'm not sure myself what will happen. I quite enjoy doing these. It's nice to just draw without any agenda before hand. Enjoy.

Skeleton Bellhop Now In SKELOCOLOR!

Decided to color this guy up a little bit. I've been very lax about doing any color work and I really need to remedy that. I also need to work on my painting skills in general so this will be good for me. Anyway, I plan on spending a bit more time on this guy so we'll see where it goes. I've also decided he needs a name. So any suggestions any of you all might have please let me know. Enjoy.

p.s. Spent about 15 minutes coloring so far. Let's keep track shall we.

Skeleton Bellhop

Hey ya'll! Ok, I'm going to try and do better about updating this thing. So for now I'll just give you a quick sketch I did of a skeleton bellhop. Had some fun with it, and I just love the skeleton. He reminds me of the mexican day of the dead stuff that I think is so cool. I'm not really sure what hotel this guy works at or if you would even want to stay there given who they hire, but I've heard that this bellhop is pretty nice. He's not too chatty and he always provides service with a smile. Plus I've heard that if you don't tip the vampires working at this particular estabolishment, they bite your neck and suck out your blood. Skeletons are a much better way to go in my opinion. Enjoy.

Obaday

Wow, sorry it's been almost a month. Just laziness on my part. Sorry. This is one from my sketchbook. He's a character in a book I just read. He wasn't the main character or anything but I thought that a character witha pin cushion head and clothes made out of pages of books seemed pretty interesting. Enjoy.

New Sketchbook

Hey ya'll! I just got a couple of new sketchbooks. I've been hearing about these moleskin sketchbooks for awhile now and decided to see what all the fuss was about so I ordered a couple of them off of amazon. So far I'm liking it quite a bit. The paper is really thick which I like. I'm going to start throwing some watercolor on some of the sketches and I think this paper can handle that pretty well. It's a little smaller than I'm used to but that's ok. It's nice to have something very travel sized. Anywho this is just a random assortment of stuff from the new sketchbook. Enjoy.

Meeting Sketches and Warmups

I've been so crazy lately that I just haven't kept up on posting here on my blog and I've accumulated quite a few sketches from my morning meetings and warm up sketches as well. I decided to just dump them all on you. Enjoy.

Shark boy

This is a project I have been excited about for a long time now. A couple of years back I found a website called The Monster Engine (at www.themonsterengine.com oddly enough) and at the site you can see pictures that young kids have drawn and then the artist has taken them and painted them as beautifully as he can. The end result is just gorgeous and alot of fun. Right then and there I said to myself that when my own kids were at that stage to do a recognizable drawing I would paint it up. Well my son has gotten to tthat stage and drew up this picture of Shark Boy (fromt he movie "Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3D" which he is totally in love with) and I snatched up his drawing and painted it. I had so much fun doing this. It was a hoot to paint a drawing with shapes I never would have drawn. I still have my sons original drawing and I'm going to get a frame that I can put both his drawing and then my painting in together. Anyway, that's the long way of saying I took my son's drawing and had fun painting it myself. Enjoy.
